A screen-printed piece made in a 2 week timespan within Henry Smith’s Print Studio course at UT Design. A reflective piece, on my time in and out of hospitals.
.
To create the initial scan, I took off all of my jewelry & placed it within the biohazard bag, preserved from my last MRI.
Utilizing screen filler for the first orange layer, I embraced the medium’s messiness, hand-painting sans serif characters & embracing fudged edges and portions.
I ran into an initial error, with my reference paper sticking onto the screen, but thankfully this did not interfere when printing.
Utilizing a photo emulsion for the second black layer, I created a halftone layer detailing the contents & exterior details of the biohazard bag.
I used acetate to align the black key layer onto the orange screen-filler printed layer.
I completed 8 prints total, aiming to better understand the alignment process of layers. I was also able to print the final emulsion layer on two shirts, which I double printed for a distorted effect.
