SHARAN GUPTA

Hi there! I’m Sharanya Gupta (a.k.a. Anya), a designer rethinking messaging for the reflective, the underserved, and the marginalized.

I create promotional design —primarily for the sponsorship of local communities— embracing intersectional, anti-authoritarian and marginalized perspectives.

To contact me, please email at sharanya.gupta@gmail.com.

My design is for those wishing to be reflective upon their own lived experiences, confronting them when interacting with my designed products. I myself frequently question whether what I am doing is right or wrong, and I wish for my audience to take similar notice of issues occurring worldwide.

My design is for those who are underserved, who have dreams which they wish to bring a visual form to, but simply do not have the resources to design themselves. Punks are those who are anti-establishment, inherently underserved by the system. I work with local “punks” (organizers and nationwide small-scale artists rejecting corporate structure) creating graphics and marketing material for their messages to be heard.

My design is for those who are marginalized, who have not seen their experiences represented in the field of design. I come from an Indian background, raised both Christian and Hindu, and am second generation. I am queer and transgender, using they/them pronouns and masculine titles. I was born with a chronic condition, a mutated form of Cardiomyopathy, which has greatly affected my physical mobility and ability since birth. This semester, I went into more severe heart failure, which greatly affected my ability to participate in life to the extent I wished to.

These lived experiences greatly influence my design, and who I wish to speak to through design.
